Wine and dine

Start at St Pancras with fast-track and lounge access. On Eurostar, enjoy champagne, wine and a three-course lunch in Premier Class. In Paris, a chauffeured car transfers you to Gare de Lyon, where you board TGV Lyria. Dinner with wine is served at your seat before you arrive in Zurich for two nights in the old town.

First you pass one of the most beautiful lakes in Switzerland,
then you travel through the narrow and dramatic Arlberg Pass
into Austria, and finally you experience the mountains and
valleys of Tyrol.Â

much more famous trains like the Bernina and Glacier Express.
You are seated in a Swiss panorama coach immersing you in
the scenery, and the train carries a dining car. You arrive early
evening for your two-night stay in beautiful and historic Graz.
Today’s journey may be short, but what it lacks in hours it makes
up for in grandeur: You will be traveling on the Semmering
Railway, widely recognised as the world’s first mountain
railway. Completed in 1854 as the pride of the Habsburg Empire,
it was built over a seemingly impossibly high mountain pass
with steep gradients and significant elevation changes.
Today, the Semmering railway still impresses. It passes 16 major
viaducts and crosses more than 100 arched stone bridges,
gracefully winding its way up the mountain in sweeping curves.
In contrast to the 170 years old railway, your train is a modern
RailJet express with an onboard bistro. You arrive in Vienna for
you two-night stay in the historic centre of town.
The journey to Prague is on a direct Austrian RailJet
express train. You are seated in the train’s premium first
class cabin with extra space and comfort, and the possibility
of having food and wine from the onboard bistro served at
your seat. The winelist is entirely Austrian, usually with a
fine example of the country’s famed red wines.Â
This four-hour journey may not be especially scenic, but
the sweep of history is here: Shortly after leaving Vienna you
cross the mighty Danube, and a little later you pass within a
few miles of the site of Napoleon’s great battle of Austerlitz.
Prague’s central station is at the edge of the old town, with
your hotel for the next two nights perfectly located.
