Most of your rail journeys are in Europe’s best premium first classes, with lounge access, personal service, and lunch and wine served at your seat. And as you lean back with a glass of prosecco in hand, the view outside is one of terraced vineyards above Lake Geneva, snowy Alpine peaks, Italian mountain lakes, Mediterranean coves and beaches, and finally the villages and hills of Sicily.
For our new and upgraded version, this journey now includes two nights in possibly the most romantic and stunning small town on all of Southern Italy’s sun-drenched Mediterranean coast. Perched on the edge of a vertical rockface rising high above the beach below, an immaculately restored 16th century monastery is now a five-star boutique hotel, and your base for exploring the alleys, squares and beaches of Tropea. To celebrate this new inclusion, we are pleased to offer the journey at the original price of £5,400, a saving of £400 per person, for bookings made before July 31.
This romantic itinerary includes the Gotthard Panorama Express, Lugano, the Amalfi Coast, stunning and historic Tropea, and Taormina in Sicily. Chauffeured cars await you in front of every railway station and hotel.

Your journey day by day

ease through the station with fast-track and access to
an elegant lounge. Onboard, savour a three-course lunch
with wine and champagne. In Paris, a personal escort
will meet you at the train and guide you to a
chauffeured car for the short drive to Gare de Lyon.

After a pleasant visit to Le Train Bleu’s opulent bar, board
your TGV Lyria. Enjoy premium first class with a three-
course dinner with wine served at your seat as you
approach Lake Geneva and Lausanne. Arrive early evening
and stay two nights in the old town high on a hill with
panoramic views of the lake and Alpine peaks.

Zurich unites global finance with historic elegance.
In the Old Town, Fraumünster’s Chagall windows,
the Lindenhof hill, and the Giacometti Hall reveal
quieter cultural depth. From the Grossmünster towers,
sweeping views stretch across the river, lake, and
distant Alps, highlighting a city of great beauty.

From Zurich you travel to Lucerne where you
board a historic steamer and sail across the
stunningly beautiful lake. This is the first part
of the legendary Gotthard Panorama Express –
on the opposite shore, a special train awaits to
take you through the historic pass to Lugano.

On the sun-drenched south side of the Alps,
nestled on the banks of a grand and scenic
Alpine lake, lies the historic and charning
town of Lugano. This is Ticino, the Italian-
speaking Swiss province, as the food, language
and palm trees will inform you.

Welcome to Executive Class, the finest premium first class
in Europe. The entire car seats just ten passengers, each ensconced
in a big reclining chair. A steward is at hand to serve espressos,
wine and prosecco, and to take your order for the four-course
a-la-carte lunch. There are scenic views of Tuscany before you arrive
at Naples and your chauffeured car to the Amalfi coast.

Probably the most iconic coastline in Europe,
and one of the most stunning, the Amalfi Coast
beckons with its romantic towns perched on the
rocks above the Mediterranean. If you enjoy
hiking, the Path of the Gods is one of the
finest trails anywhere.

Just after lunch you are picked up by your private driver for the
scenic ride on the coastal road to Salerno where you board
your train. You are traveling in Executive Class with a maximum
of ten passengers in the entire car, each enjoying a huge
reclining seat, personal service, free bar, and a four-course
meal served at the seat.

Enjoy the short and scenic journey along the
Mediterranean Sea, overlooking beaches and rocky headlands,
and enjoying the comfort of Executive Class. Tropea is
truly a hidden gem, tucked far away from the main
line on an isolated stretch of beaches, so the
last hour of today’s journey is in a chauffeured car.

Tropea is a stunning clifftop town, famous for its
dramatic coastline and historic charm. Perched on
a sandstone cliff, the town overlooks white sandy
beaches and turquoise waters. World-class
beaches like Spiaggia della Rotonda compete with
the narrow lanes of the medieval centre for your attention.

A chauffeured car takes you to the nearest
railway station where you board a direct intercity
train for Taormina. A high point of this four-hour journey
is when the car is taken onto a train-ferry for the
short crossing to Sicily. You are free to go
up on the deck and enjoy the view.

Once the train has come ashore in Sicily, it will proceed south
along the coast for the short journey to Taormina. The views
over the Messina Strain to the Italian mainland are wonderful.
Film buffs may recognise the small and historic railway
station of Taormina Giardino: It was used for Godfather III.
A chauffeured car takes you up to your hotel.

Perched on a cliff overlooking the Ionian Sea,
Taormina is often called the “Pearl of the
Mediterranean” for its blend of ancient history,
elegant streets, and stunning views of Mount Etna.
Visit the ancient Greek theatre, stroll the pedestrian
Corso Umberto, and take the cablecar to the beach.

Your rail journey to Amalfi & Taormina begins in classic style. At London St Pancras you are welcomed with fast-track and lounge access before boarding the Eurostar. A three-course lunch with wine and champagne is served on your way to Paris. On arrival, a personal escort takes you to a chauffeured car for the short drive across the city to Gare de Lyon. There is time for a drink at the legendary Le Train Bleu before you continue on the TGV Lyria. Dinner is served at your seat in premium first class as you approach the shores of Lake Geneva. You arrive in Zurich in the early evening and stay two nights in the old town.
From Zurich, the panoramic adventure begins. You travel on the legendary Gotthard Panorama Express, first by historic steamer and then though the scenic pass, to the sun and palm trees of Switzerland’s Italian-speaking Ticino province where you stay two nights in charning Lugano.
A local train brings you to Milan’s grand station, where Executive Class awaits: Europe’s most exclusive premium carriage with just ten reclining seats. A steward is always on hand to serve espresso, prosecco and wine, while a four-course à-la-carte lunch is prepared as the train glides south through Tuscany. At Naples, a chauffeured car takes you along the winding roads to Amalfi, where the coast’s dramatic cliffs and colourful villages welcome you.
After your stay, a private driver brings you to Salerno to board Executive Class again. With spacious seating, fine dining and a free bar, you journey south along the Mediterranean coast, through small towns and past rocky headlands. The train eventually reaches Reggio di Calabria, where you spend the evening in this lively southern city.
The final stage of your journey takes you to Sicily. From Reggio, a short drive brings you to Villa San Giovanni where your train boards the ferry across the Messina Strait. You are free to step onto the deck and enjoy the sea breeze as the train sails across to Sicily. Once ashore, the line continues along the coast to Taormina. The views over the strait are unforgettable, and film lovers may recognise Taormina Giardini station from The Godfather Part III.
